Kiziltag Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The name is derived from the Kiziltag rock series by Zhang Zhenhua et al. (1957). The type locality is the Tongguzibulong village (79°06'E, 40°44'N), Keping, Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu.
Synonym: (克兹尔塔格组), Keziertage Fm
Lithology and Thickness
It is dominated by purple, brownish red thick bedded-massive sandstone, siltstone, interbedded with conglomerate bearing sandstone. Two members can be recognized: Lower member of siltstone, and Upper member of mainly sandstone with conglomerate-bearing sandstone at its lower part. The thickness of this formation is changing from 200 m to 600 m.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is conformable with the underlying Yimugantawu Fm.
Upper contact
The formation is unconformable overlain by Carbonaceous rocks.
Regional extent
It is distributed on the Keping-Bachu area, the north margin of the Tarim Basin. It can be correlated with the Huixingshao Fm of Yangtze Region (Zhao Wenjin et al., 2009).

Fossils
The fossils are not abundant. The chitinozoa, acritarch, fish and spore have been found since 1990s (Gen Liangyu et al., 1993; Zhang Shiben et al., 2001; Zhao Wenjin et al., 2009).
